La photo ancienne est toute photo qui n'a pas le format d'une photo-carte (9x14cm) et qui représente quelquechose relatif à la cartophilie. Ce sera souvent une photo de personnage, de bâtiment ou groupe de personnages identifiés ou non.

Parfois des photos de classe ont le format d'une carte postale on les placera néanmoins dans le groupe photo ancienne car la plupart des photos de classes n'ont pas le format de cartes postales et il est préférable d'avoir toute les photos de classe dans une même catégorie
